What customers say?

“ OMG. I never had hot pot before but have been wanting to for awhile. First time so I have nothing else to compare it to, but what I can say is "Damn"... That stuff is amazing. The flavor was great and I'm a fan now. I loved the Tonkatsu soup with the Australian lamb and spicy beef... Mouth watering just thinking about it. On top of that, service was great. Seated right away, dishes brought out quickly, water was never empty, and server took time to explain how everything worked. 10 stars. ”

“ The service at Tao’s is impeccable. Staff members are attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely eager to enhance your dining experience. They guided us through the menu and recommended some fantastic choices. As for the food, it was nothing short of spectacular. We started with a variety of appetizers, each more delicious than the last. The hotpot options are plentiful, featuring fresh, high-quality ingredients that meld beautifully with their rich and flavorful.I highly recommend Tao’s HotPot & Shabu to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Folsom. “ The pictures posted by other reviewers look very nice, so I decided to try this place with my friends. Saw couple bad reviews about the service so I was nervous about getting the same. Surprisingly, it was not bad at all. We went there and sit down about 8:15pm. Per the menu, each table was supposed to order 3 meats, 2 sides, 2 appetizers at one time (menu didn’t limit # of rounds). The last call was at 8:30pm, so we were nervous that the kitchen will shutdown and we didn’t have enough food. However, the servers helped us a lot to ensure we get enough food we wanted and the plates in every round still looked descent and full. The meat was great and others sides were well thought & delicious as well. The owner also came out and asked about how’s the food, how’s the service, and anything that they can improve. Rarely had such an experience that Owner went out and talk to each table to take advices and get better. It seems that it is their first restaurant and they want to provide the excellent service to the customers. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend this place to my friends and family. ”

“ Solid food, solid service. The hot pot was a bit cold if ya know what I mean. The wind blows one way if you know what I mean. The food was good tho and the place was nice. A bit dirty but nice. I didn't like that there was a server who hardly knew English but like I said before the wind blows one way if you know what I mean. ”

“ My friend and I don’t mind making the 20-30 minute drive to get here because we know we are going to have a good time and eat good food. The cuts of meat are always good, the sides are yummy too and the waiter was always attentive and checking in on us. My favorite is always the beef cuts, never lets me down. I think the sauces are okay for dipping the meat, I think that and the green chicken has room for improvement. I did notice the selection has changed since the last time I have come here, I think there are more options for sides now. Yay! ”

“ Not sure if anyone has been hoping for a hot pot/shabu place to open up around here, but I was and I’m glad Tao’s Hot Pot and Shabu opened up in Folsom! If you have never tried this type of food, you pick from a selection of soup bases, then pick your meats/veggies/carbs etc., boil then eat. Basically fondue but not using cheese. They also offer hot food items, such as chicken wings, potstickers, etc. If you can handle spicy then I would recommend trying the spicy soup base, unfortunately I can’t handle heat. The owner is from the hot pot capital of China (ChongQing) so I would imagine the spicy soup base to be quite good. Price is comparable to other ayce hot pot/shabu places, and there are lots of specials during the week (50% off alcohol and free soft drink), I also did the lobster tail add on ($12), so worth it! You can tell it’s really fresh and it was tasty. For my protein I just stuck to beef, both kinds were really good. I got the miso soup base and it was well flavored and seasoned. I’m a big fan of their house special dipping sauce, and stuck to using that. The homemade shrimp balls is also great, and a must order. The shrimp came peeled and deveined, which was nice. To my pleasant surprise they offer yuki no bosha (cabin in the snow) sake. A rarer delicious sake I usually find at fancier establishments. At 50% I just had to haha! I’ll be back to try the tomato soup base soon! They do get busy on the weekends so plan ahead. This would be great for those heading to/from Tahoe as well. Nom nom! ”

“ We were surprised with the quality of food. Great mom and pops shop Plus they make sure their vegetables are fresh along with their meat balls, cilantro balls and shrimp meat balls (they make it themselves, not the typical frozen ones). Great customer service and family approved this to be the best in the area without having to drive to the bay area or south sac. ”

“ Just visited Tao’s HotPot & Shabu in Folsom and had a fantastic experience. The service was excellent—the staff was super attentive and friendly throughout the meal, checking in on us often without being intrusive. We really liked that everyone gets their own individual pot, so we could all get exactly what we wanted. My kid loves spicy food and went for the Spicy Beef broth (Chongqing style), which was legitimately flavorful and had a good kick. I stuck with the Miso broth, which was savory and perfect for cooking the seafood. What to order: Definitely get the Handmade Shrimp Balls—they were the highlight of the meal! We also ordered the mussels and squid, which were fresh and cooked up quickly in the broth. If you’re a seafood fan, that combo with the Miso base works really well. Great spot for families or groups since you don't have to compromise on broth flavors. Will definitely be back! Quick Tip for you while you're there: Since you have the squid and mussels, try not to leave them in the pot too long (2–3 minutes usually does it) so they stay tender! Enjoy your meal! ”
